The detail

Dating back to 1692, the once fruit and wine farm has been beautifully restored to be a contemporary Cape Dutch style hotel and working wine farm.

Some of the farm’s earliest structures from that time remain on the farm today, with Babylonstoren’s Cape Dutch werf (farmyard) typical of the architectural style popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. As such it is considered to be one of the best-preserved farmyards in the Cape today.

All of the more than 300 varieties of plants in the garden are edible or have medicinal value, with everything from blood oranges to asparagus, mushrooms, and persimmons supplying the farm’s two restaurants: Babel and the Greenhouse.

At Babylonstoren’s Farm Hotel, some of the existing farm buildings have been beautifully transformed into comfortable guest accommodation. The hotel is characterized by thick whitewashed walls, elegant ceilings and cozy fireplaces that offer a classic farm stay experience.

The One-Bedroom Suites are open-plan and feature four-poster king-size beds or twin beds, en-suite bathroom, a comfortable couch and small dining table, pantry, selection of books, underfloor heating, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The One-Bedroom Cottages are slightly larger than the one bedroom suites and feature a four-poster king-size bed, opulent en-suite bathroom with freestanding bathtub and shower, a lounge area with reading materials, underfloor heating, complimentary Wi-Fi and a pantry. The cottages are either garden or vineyard facing, with access to the garden and the farm.

The Two-Bedroom Cottages sleeps four guests in two en-suite bedrooms with king-size beds or one king and twin beds respectively. Other features include a dining and kitchen area, underfloor heating, lounge with reading materials, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a well-stocked pantry.

The Farmhouse Suites feature a four poster king-size bed, en-suite marble bathroom with freestanding bathtub, shower, and walk-in closet, bathrobes, underfloor heating, cast-iron stove, lounge with reading materials, complimentary Wi-Fi, writing desk, television, and stocked pantry. These all have access to an outdoor swimming pool and a hot spa area that includes a salt room, sauna and vitality pool as well as a lounge area.

The Manor House is an exclusive accommodation option with five bedrooms that accommodate up to 10 people. Three of the rooms have a king-size bed and the other two have twin beds, a shared lounge with a number of good books to read beside the fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, pantry and dining area; and a patio that leads out on the well-manicured lawn.

The hotel facilities include a bakery, two restaurants, a wine cellar and tasting room, a fresh produce shop, and a spa.

The hotel's location affords guests the opportunity of visiting some of South Africa's finest wine farms and exploring the beautiful valley of Franschhoek. Babylonstoren offers guests the opportunity to experience a wine tasting, tea ritual, and explore the eight-acre garden that flourishes with fruit and vegetables.

Pascal John was awesome!
Pascal John was very helpful with planning our trip. We had specific dates and time frames that we had to make sure corresponded correctly with the rest of our South Africa trip and Pascal John could not have made it any easier. He was professional and always responded over text in a timely manner. Definitely would recommend!

This Travel Firm is Ready for You!
We have completed the preliminary reservations with this amazing travel firm. Thank God they exist! We would never have been able to figure out how to put the pieces of our trip to AFRICA together without them. They are patient, caring, detailed, and responsive to communications…something you expect, but do not always receive when service is involved. Connect with them via email if you are even thinking about going to Africa. Cheers!

First time to Cape Town
We are a group of ten friends traveling together to Cape Town for the first time. Safari.com was our top choice for travel agents. Leché and Tracy were incredibly helpful and prompt with our questions and bookings. The trip to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve was fantastic, and everything went off without a hitch. We highly recommend Safari.com for your safari plans!
