Camp Moremi brings true meaning to the word safari in the Xakanaxa area of the Moremi Game Reserve. Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, both in the morning and late afternoons, offer frequent sightings of lion, leopard and cheetah as well as wild dog. Guest can explore the Xakanaxa Lagoon and surrounding Okavango channels by motorboat.
The elegant Moremi Camp nestles on the banks of the Xakanaxa Lagoon under a canopy of ancient ebony trees. The thatch and timber camp is elevated off the ground to offer expansive views over the lagoon and the floodplain that teem with wildlife. Camp Moremi prides itself on providing personalized service and luxurious accommodations, ensuring an unforgettable safari experience for all their guests.
Camp Moremi offers twelve modern African-style safari tents, each elevated on a timber platform overlooking the lagoon. Each open-plan tent boasts a double bed draped in mosquito netting, a writing desk, minibar, spacious en-suite bathroom with double vanities and double showers, sitting area, and a private deck complete with loungers.
One of the tents is suited for a family and consists of two bedrooms, two en-suite bathrooms, and private decks. The two tents are connected by an interleading door.
The camp facilities include a sunken bar, a spacious lounge area with beautiful brass and soft finishes, a library, an indoor dining area, an outdoor boma, a fireplace area in front of the camp, a swimming pool, and a private deck.
Qualified guides lead morning and afternoon game drives, offering opportunities to view the diverse wildlife residing in the reserve's mosaic of habitats. Alternatively, guests can explore the water-lily-ringed lagoon and waterways of the delta by motorboat. Boat trips provide outstanding views of the various birdlife. During the summer months, guests can visit heronries on the Gadikwe and Xakanaxa Lagoons by boat.
Large numbers of plains game and predators are found throughout the year. After the introduction of rhino to this concession, the area became home to the Big Five. Predators abound and include several lion prides, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and the rare and endangered wild dog. Large herds of elephant and buffalo frequent the area, and blue wildebeest, steenbok, giraffe, greater kudu, impala, Burchell's zebra, and tsessebe are abundant. The region’s flood levels attract the much-sought-after water-dwelling antelope species, such as sitatunga and red lechwe.
The area is also excellent for birding safaris, with over 400 species of birds recorded. Notable species include the African fish eagle, malachite kingfisher, bateleur, crested and wattled cranes, black-tailed godwit, sacred ibis, green pigeon, and the rare and elusive Pel's fishing owl.
Moremi Camp is ideal for solo explorers, couples, and families looking for an authentic tented safari experience.
