Elsa's Kopje is located in the heart of the 444 789 acre Meru National Park, sculpted into the Mughwango Hill, above the site of George Adamson’s original camp where he raised and released orphan lions.
Elsa's Kopje is internationally recognized as one of Africa's most elegant and environmentally friendly lodges.
The camp offers unrivaled views of Mount Kenya in the east and the vast surrounding wilderness. Meru National Park boasts diverse vegetation and thirteen spring-fed rivers that attract an abundance of wildlife, making for an unforgettable safari experience.
The award-winning lodge features six luxurious Open-Fronted Cottages that are built around the rocks of Mughwango Hill. These cottages include a large bedroom with double or twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with double vanities, a bathtub and shower, bathrobes, mosquito netting, a writing desk, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a balcony or deck overlooking the park. Two of the cottages feature a daybed or extra bed to accommodate three people.
Two of the three Honeymoon Cottages offer an intimate setting with spacious bedrooms, opulent en-suite bathrooms, and small private decks with outdoor baths. The third cottage is a three-leveled suite comprising a main bedroom, en-suite bathroom, spacious living room, and a private deck.
The Family Cottage includes a spacious main bedroom with a double bed, a second bedroom with twin beds suitable for children under 16 years of age, two en-suite bathrooms, a shared living room, an outdoor bathtub, and an expansive viewing deck.
The exclusive Elsa's Private House is great for families and consists of a main bedroom with a double bed and outdoor shower, a second bedroom with twin beds and an indoor shower, a shared living and dining room, as well as a private garden with an infinity swimming pool.
The lodge facilities include an open bar, a lounge and dining room, an infinity pool with views over the Meru Plains, a spa, and a laundry service.
Meru is regarded as lion and elephant territory but also serves as a habitat for rhino, hippo, and many rare species, including the lesser kudu, caracal, and aardwolf. The park is ideal for bird watching, with over 400 recorded species.
Activities offered at the lodge include daily game drives in open safari vehicles designed for comfort and photography, night drives that afford encounters with animals active after dark, and guided walks to explore the flora, fauna, and fascinating smaller creatures of the African bush. Other activities include day trips to the Tana River, visits to the 84-square-kilometer rhino sanctuary, river fishing, cultural visits, and revitalizing spa treatments.
Elsa's Kopje is ideal for solo explorers, couples, and families looking for a unique and rewarding safari experience.
