Mombo Camp sits on the northern point of Chief’s Island in the wild and watery heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Winner of numerous awards and accolades, this small and exclusive tented camp is famous not only for its apartment-sized suites but also for its superb game viewing which is said to be amongst the best in Africa.
Located in the Delta’s renowned Moremi Game Reserve, in the north-eastern corner of Chief’s Island – once a tribal leader’s hunting ground – Wilderness Mombo today is a beacon of ecotourism, leaving a light footprint in paradise. With its mix of habitats attracting large herds, followed by a variety of predators, discover why Mombo is truly the "Mother of all Camps."
The Mombo Wildlife Area has been known for generations as the “Place of Plenty” by the Bayei people. Massive concentrations of plains game and predators thrive here. These include all the big cats, with frequent sightings of lions. Leopards, spotted hyenas, large herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffes, blue wildebeests, Burchell's zebras, and more roam the area. Meanwhile, cheetahs and African wild dogs occasionally move through, and if you're fortunate, you may even glimpse one of Africa’s rarer species, such as a pangolin or honey badger.
Rebuilt in 2018, Wilderness Mombo — the flagship camp — repurposed much of its material and maintains the integrity of its pristine environment through the use of natural resources, a minimal human footprint, and 100% solar energy. Elevated on wooden decks beneath towering mangosteen and fig trees, Wilderness Mombo overlooks a spectacular floodplain bustling with wildlife.
The camp features eight elegant, expansive guest suites that celebrate the history and traditions of the legendary original camp. Each suite offers an indoor lounge area, separate bedroom and bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, an elegant copper bathtub, and an outdoor private sala complete with a double daybed, sunken couch, private plunge pool, and wrap-around veranda. All these amenities are seamlessly designed to deepen guests' immersion into the African bush and the wonders of Mombo’s Private Traversing Area.
Between game drives, you’ll find Mombo Camp to be a sanctuary of luxury surrounded by the tranquillity of the Delta. Shaded by ebony and fig trees, the camp integrates its surroundings beautifully with features like an open-sided lounge, shaded daybeds, and two plunge pools that overlook a floodplain invariably dotted with game. You can opt for a massage on your private deck or visit the small but well-equipped outdoor gym to ease any guilt after indulging in the camp’s delicious cuisine.
Wilderness Mombo is a leader in conservation tourism. Its continued success over decades of operation has not only bolstered and supported local communities but has also contributed to the growth of sustainable safari practices across Botswana as a whole.

Leigh-Ann Croeser from Safari.com was fantastic
Leigh-Ann from Safari.com was great to work with to plan our group safari trip. She was able to get me on the priority waitlist for a lodge that I liked, which ended up working out for our group during my preferred dates. Leigh-Ann was responsive and provided various tour recommendations for us to decide on the best option for us. There were a few email and name typos from Leigh-Ann that I had to correct, but other than that, I had a great experience.
