Morukuru Beach Lodge is a hidden gem located just over three hours from Cape Town in the Overberg region to the east of Cape Agulhas known as De Hoop Nature Reserve. With over 34000 hectares of fynbos, 70 kilometers of beaches, white sand dunes, vlei wetlands and the Potberg Mountains; De Hoop Nature Reserve is a pristine wilderness unheard of by many travelers.
Children of all ages are welcome at Morukuru Beach Lodge and at the exclusive use Morukuru Ocean House.
Ocean View Suites and Dune View Suites can accommodate a maximum of two adults and one child under 16 years. Child rates will apply.
Children under the age of 2 years are accommodated free of charge.
Each child’s particular food requirements, bedding preferences, interests, age and life experiences are taken into account.
Babysitting facilities are available apon request.
The new Morukuru Beach Lodge, scheduled to open its doors on 7 July 2018, is situated at Koppie Alleen along the pristine coastline and has been built with the greatest sensitivity to the environment. The electricity is generated entirely by solar panels, however, for the odd longer cloudy periods, they do have a backup generator. Hot water is produced by pellet burners and the whole lodge has water based underfloor heating.
Morukuru Beach Lodge consists of 4 luxury Ocean View Suites and 1 Dune View Suite with views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding sand dunes. Morukuru Beach Lodge is a sanctuary of refined comfort and luxury with each suite 90 sqm in size and fitted with King size beds and separate en-suite which includes an outdoor bath.
Morokuru Beach Lodge can also be booked out exclusively or alternatively Morukuru Ocean House which is a 4-bedroom oceanfront home. Morukuru Ocean House can accommodate 8 adults and 4 children. The 4 suites all have their own en-suite bathrooms and glass doors overlooking the ocean.
The lodge facilities include a sparkling swimming pool, roof-top terrace, a restaurant offering indoor and outdoor dining, hotel bar, complimentary Wi-Fi, Lounge facilities, nanny services (at a nominal fee), library, and room service.
At Morukuru Beach Lodge guests can enjoy a wide range of activities. Two guided activities daily are included in the rate. Depending on the tide and the weather, the guide will decide which activities to offer. Guests at Morukuru Beach Lodge can enjoy complimentary use of outdoor equipment (like snorkels, masks, water shoes, wetsuits, mountain bikes, sand boards, ponchos, gumboots, beach umbrella, towels).
De Hoop Nature Reserve is flanked by the De Hoop Marine Protected Area, one of the best land-based whale watching areas in Africa, or anywhere in the world really. During the winter months (June – October) Southern Right Whales migrate to the shores of De Hoop from Antarctica to mate and calve. The less common Bryde’s whale and the rare humpback have also been seen here, although they are much harder to spot. Pods of dolphins are also seen frequently. From the beaches and sand dunes, the Southern Right Whales can easily be seen and it is not necessary to go out by boat, which is actually not allowed in the Marine Protected Area.
Besides the whales, De Hoop Nature Reserve is also home to 86 other mammal species. These include the rare bontebok and Cape mountain zebra, eland, grey rhebok, chacma baboon, yellow mongoose, and caracal. The illusive Cape Leopard, although rare, is also found in the reserve. Birdwatchers will find the reserve particularly rewarding as well, as it is home to 260 bird species including the endangered Black Oystercatcher and the only remaining colony of Cape Vultures.
De Hoop Nature Reserve is also part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, which forms part of one of six Floral Kingdoms of the World. The Cape Floral Kingdom occupies only 0.04% of the world’s landmass and was classified as a World Heritage Site in December 2004. Situated at the southern tip of Africa, this majestic floral kingdom is the only one to be fully contained within a single country. Incredibly it has the highest known concentration of plant species in the world, its nearest rival, the South American rainforest, has only one third the number of species. Even more remarkable is that 70 percent of the Cape’s impressive 9,600 plant species grow nowhere else on Earth.
Morukuru Beach Lodge and Ocean House are ideal for solo travelers, couples and families looking for a combined beach and adventure getaway.
Accommodation, all meals and snacks, coffee, tea, waters, softdrinks, complimentary wifi (limitd bandwidth), two guided activities daily, use of snorkeling equipment, entrance fees / reserve gate fee.
Transfers, additional beverages, additional excursions, gratuities and items of a personal nature.

Keith went above and beyond expectations arranging our holiday safari travels (for one vegan and one mobility-impaired traveller, no less:-). Safari.com is lucky to have Keith on board. He helped us feel confident in our choices, keeping us up to date with options, and finessing holiday scheduling issues with aplomb.

This Travel Firm is Ready for You!
We have completed the preliminary reservations with this amazing travel firm. Thank God they exist! We would never have been able to figure out how to put the pieces of our trip to AFRICA together without them. They are patient, caring, detailed, and responsive to communications…something you expect, but do not always receive when service is involved. Connect with them via email if you are even thinking about going to Africa. Cheers!

First time to Cape Town
We are a group of ten friends traveling together to Cape Town for the first time. Safari.com was our top choice for travel agents. Leché and Tracy were incredibly helpful and prompt with our questions and bookings. The trip to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve was fantastic, and everything went off without a hitch. We highly recommend Safari.com for your safari plans!

Safari booking
Fadiel was very prompt in responding to my emails. Despite a double booking for our Safari - not his fault - everything worked out well in the end.
