The prestigious Shamwari Private Game Reserve covers 20 000 hectares of verdant bush along the Bushmans River in the Eastern Cape. The malaria-free reserve is home to five of the seven habitats found in South Africa, and its location close to the Garden Route, making a safari at Shamwari a perfect choice for those seeking to combine a tour of the Garden Route with a luxury Big Five safari.
Children of all ages are welcome at the lodge. Child rates are applicable to children from 4 years up to and including 11 years; irrespective of whether children are sharing with adults or staying in their own room/room (single or sharing).
Located in the southern region of the reserve, Sarili Lodge sits above the Bushman’s River and overlooks the grassy plains. This intimate and luxurious lodge offers an authentic bush feel and is the perfect destination for family getaways. This eco-friendly lodge has a home away from home feel and offers both exclusivity and privacy in 5-star comfort.
The lodge boasts five en-suite Luxury Rooms, of which three have private balconies that overlook the river and the other two have patios facing the courtyard. Each room features an en-suite bathroom with separate shower, air conditioning, under floor heating, television, minibar, in-room safe, hairdryer, international adaptors, and tea and coffee making facilities. One of the rooms has a sleeper couch which is ideal for young children.
Enjoy early morning and evening game drives that are led by professional guides and guided game walks that afford up-close encounters with the smaller wondrous creatures of the African bush. Visits can be arranged to Shamwari's Born Free Foundation Animal Rescue Centre, Ian Player Rhino Awareness Centre, and the Shamwari Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
Guests frequently sight the Big Five during their stay, along with cheetah, caracal, wild dog and a variety of antelope. Evening game drives often reveal the more rarely seen nocturnal creatures, such as the hopping springhare, aardwolf, and brown hyena.
The Shamwari Game Reserve is the perfect place for bird lovers, boasting over 250 bird species. The reserve is home to a number of raptor species including Black Harriers, Pale Chanting Goshawks, Black-shouldered Kites, Booted Eagles and Secretary Birds. The Bushman’s River meanders through the reserve providing a great refuge for kingfishers, darters, the African Shelduck, finfoots and the iconic African Fish Eagle.

This Travel Firm is Ready for You!
We have completed the preliminary reservations with this amazing travel firm. Thank God they exist! We would never have been able to figure out how to put the pieces of our trip to AFRICA together without them. They are patient, caring, detailed, and responsive to communications…something you expect, but do not always receive when service is involved. Connect with them via email if you are even thinking about going to Africa. Cheers!

First time to Cape Town
We are a group of ten friends traveling together to Cape Town for the first time. Safari.com was our top choice for travel agents. Leché and Tracy were incredibly helpful and prompt with our questions and bookings. The trip to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve was fantastic, and everything went off without a hitch. We highly recommend Safari.com for your safari plans!

Safari booking
Fadiel was very prompt in responding to my emails. Despite a double booking for our Safari - not his fault - everything worked out well in the end.
