Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a private concession within the world-renowned Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta braids across 15 000 km² of Botswana’s Kalahari Desert, providing an oasis to an abundance of wildlife. In the permanent delta, the myriad of sparkling waterways coil amongst the reed and papyrus beds and open unexpectedly onto tranquil lagoons that are fringed by wooded islands.
Xugana Lagoon is recognized as one of the most spectacular permanent water camps in the Okavango Delta. The lodge, located on a wooded island in the Xugana Lagoon, nestles beneath the shade of ancient wild ebony and African mangosteen trees, overlooking the peaceful lagoon. This exclusive reed and thatch structure seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape. Xugana prides itself on exceptional service, comfortable accommodation, and sumptuous cuisine.
The lodge features eight reed-and-thatch Lagoon-Facing Chalets that are raised on wooden platforms to provide breathtaking views of the lagoon. Each chalet includes twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with double vanities and shower, an overhead fan, an in-room safe, tea and coffee-making facilities, an umbrella, a flashlight, an air horn, a hairdryer, and a private deck.
Facilities at the lodge include a lounge, bar, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a swimming pool, and a viewing deck.
Xugana focuses on water-based activities to explore the delta. Tranquil mokoro trips offer a soothing way to observe a variety of water birds and pods of grunting hippos up close. Motorboat safaris provide access to lagoons and nearby islands, offering exceptional opportunities for game and bird viewing. Wilderness walks allow guests to learn about the wonders of the swamp and the smaller creatures that inhabit the area. Guests can also enjoy catch-and-release fishing, trying their hand at catching bream and tiger fish.
Xugana Island Lodge borders the Moremi Game Reserve, which is home to diverse habitats that support a wide variety of animals. Guests may encounter species such as wild dogs, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, giraffes, hyenas, zebras, kudus, red lechwe, sable, and roan antelopes.
Bird-watching is excellent throughout the year, with species such as the reed cormorant, African darter, eastern white pelican, African spoonbill, goliath heron, egrets, glossy ibis, sacred ibis, storks, geese, and a variety of ducks among those that can be spotted in the area.
Xugana Island Lodge is ideal for solo travelers, couples, and families seeking a tranquil yet rewarding safari experience in the Okavango Delta.

Leigh-Ann Croeser from Safari.com was fantastic
Leigh-Ann from Safari.com was great to work with to plan our group safari trip. She was able to get me on the priority waitlist for a lodge that I liked, which ended up working out for our group during my preferred dates. Leigh-Ann was responsive and provided various tour recommendations for us to decide on the best option for us. There were a few email and name typos from Leigh-Ann that I had to correct, but other than that, I had a great experience.
