The northeastern Free State's Maluti Mountain range rests gently against Golden Gate Highlands National Park. From here, the arresting Brandwag overhang radiates a glorious golden hue (leaving no question as to where the park acquired its name or why) as it stands sentry over Glen Reenen's rest camp. Hiking trails snake in and around the area, allowing the enthusiastic game or bird watcher ample viewing from the privacy of their own vehicle (or horseback, if they prefer).

Glen Reenen offers a variety of activities such as game drives, games, hiking and nature walks, horse riding, swimming.
The Rhebok hiking trail is a 2 day, 1 night trail for up to 18 people. Advance booking are essential and the hikers are to provide all their own necessities. The shorter hiking trails do not need to be pre-booked. Game drives are done in the comfort of your vehicle.
At the Wilgenhof Environmental Education Centre they offer abseiling and canoeing.
Cultural tours and trails are offered at Basotho Cultural Village.
There are a vast number of activities on offer in Golden Gate region, such as Quad and Motor Bike Trails, Zip Lining, Paint Ball Shooting, Archery, Fly Fishing and much more. Enquire on arrival at reception
