The largest rest camp of the Kruger National Park, as well as its administrative headquarters, Skukuza Restcamp is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River. Well foliage, with lofty trees along the river’s edge, visitors can expect a diverse amount of animals and plants at this popular camp, as well as a range of activities and facilities. First established as part of the original Sabie Game Reserve in 1898, Skukuza camp is richly historical. Originally known as Sabie Bridge Rest Camp, Skukuza was adapted from the Tsonga word Sikhukhuza. This was the Zulu nickname given to the first warden of the park James Stevenson-Hamilton, who cleared the area of large groups of poachers and outlaws, and was thus nicknamed Sikhukhuza or ‘a new broom’ by the local people.

What our guests have said about this accommodation

STEFAN FOUCHE
Although we only stayed for one night, it was one of the best experiences. The staff were friendly and the bungalow was amazing, clean and had an air conditioner for the heat. They had everything we needed in the bungalow so we didn't have to buy anything except the food we cooked and the drinks we had. the parking was right next to each bungalow so we didn't have to walk far from the car. It is a very peaceful place to go and I recommend it for your trip. ten out of ten
Cornea Bruyns
We had a exceptional visit to the park. 2 leopard sightings and 6 lion sightings. As always the camp sites are clean, neat and tidy. A great time of the year to visit.
Samantha Hogan-Seccombe
We had a really good time in the park. The accommodation was very basic but adequate and clean. More space in the kitchen area would be great.
Jan Barrett
As always everything was in order and excellent service. See forward to the next trip.
Kyle
Excellent value for the money. Facilities were clean, comfortable and secure. Bathrooms and other facilities for camping and tents were far nicer than any national park in the US.
FERNANDO REBELATTO
- Great Value; - Amazing view of Sabie River; - Comfortable and well equipped bungalows;
David Thickpenny
We had a wonderful time in a very comfortable camp.
Antonio L Marques
Calm, clean and well organized. Nothing is missing for a good week-end!
Elzbieta Wieczorkiewicz
Peaceful.
Mirna Brummer
The kitchen outside is not so nice . But we enjoyed ourselfs .
Heiko Bron
We had to wait till after 14h00, to get booked in and receive keys. The weather was hot, and waiting was unpleasant. Staff tried their best. Good facilities to eat and buy supplies. Cottage was very spacious, and aircon "a must" in february. On the whole we had a pleasant stay.
kiran pidugu
hi thank you so much for the help it was very good experience i have received a very good customer service. The lady called me and return the extra amount charged on my booking by mistake. keep it up.thank you kiran pidugu
Juanita Dreyer
Very nice experience with regards to the Camping sights and the facilities.
George Barton
We had a very enjoyable 3 night stay at Skukuza. We have visited Krugar on previous visits to SA but have always stayed outside the park, we will certainly be booking to stay inside park on future visits and probably at a different rest camp to see another part. Highly recommended way to visit Krugar.
Jeanette van Rooyen
This camp was lovely. Over all, I do feel that for South Africans we do not get value for money as you could stay in a fancy hotel in Cape Town for the price of a chalet. Can't special rates be given to locals?
Simon
Skukuza was as good as ever, with staff friendly and helpful as always. Possibly noted that it's starting to get more and more expensive sadly.
Lene Joubert
We had a fabulous experience in the Kruger Park. The camp was really clean and service excellent. The people were so friendly and helpfull. Will definitly return! Thank you very much!!
Darryl Joubert
Well managed
Magane SIDNEY
The river view is hypnotic, loved each second I breathed humid air.
ANGELA SCOTNEY
Skukuza is my favourite camp, it offers everything. We had dinner out and it was awesome.
Magda Fourie
The stay was excellent, people friendly, will definitely visit/stay at Skukuza again - in future a Wimpy / any other restaurant will be recommended - current is too expensive. Further excellent service.
HENRY
The accommodation is very good and the support and treatment was outstanding. Thank you.
isabel du splessis
It was a lovely holiday, all that I suggest is that the ablution block needs a upgrade please and one more swimming pool will also help, but without a doubt I will go again!
MARA OPPERMAN
Gerhard Boshoff
It is always nice to camp and I will be back in 2015 The only problem is the speeding of certain people that do not have the respect for animals or the next person on the roads, but apart from that I enjoy KNP more every time Thanks
Shaun Schlebusch
Need bigger swimming pools to many people in the pool and its too small.
ADELLE
Very enjoyable and a pleasure to be there. Such friendly staff and super service. We will be back for sure
David Wise
Camp was a bit big and impersonal compared to others we stayed at. Wildlife around was superb though. Cattle Baron restaurant was good.
Martie Rademeyer
Our stay in the Kruger Park was generally pleasant. Congratulations on outsourcing the restaurants. This is a massive improvement and at least now visitors get good food and value for money. The service was good at the restaurants we used except at Satara Mugg and Bean where the service was exceptionally slow. Food was excellent though. I think a lot can be done regarding the bathroom facilities. They are old and outdated and an upgrade is long overdue. Cleanliness of some bathrooms is also a huge problem. One does not feel comfortable using them at all. Another sad situation is the number of small animals killed on the roads by reckless drivers. We encountered numerous tortoises and chameleons and even a baby rooibok that have been run over. Over the same period last year we only encountered one dead chameleon.
LYN DELISSEN
Found everything to our satisfaction.
Rozanne Visagie
The stay at Skukuza was great!
hilary gericke
Crocodile Bridge now has microwave ovens which Skukuza does not have! The bungalow we stayed in needs paintwork on the verandah and the baboon-proof "grid" on the fridge is shockingly made and looks very ugly, Otherwise all good,
Ruline Erasmus
Eerste keer in hierdie kamp gekamp. Baie dankie - het dit baie geniet
Myriam Tuytschaever
Basic accommodation - overpriced /although the private veranda was nice and the fact that utensils were available, was a surplus.
ABHIJEET
The stay was good along with the services.
Oupa
It was my first time at Skukuza and the place is busy and its like another town in the park. We had an exciting evening there. It was raining so there not much one could do.
Kirstie Bowers
We have been travelling to the Kruger for years and this is the first time that I am able to really compliment the staff at Numbi Gate and at the shops in Skukuza and Lower Sabie - they were all friendly, helpful and efficient. Well done guys
khathutshelo lucas netshiluvhi
Units well kept
Theresa Durand
Very Pleasant
Mathys van staden
Enjoyed it, but just didnt like the american restaurant as its South Africa dont need a M&B and bistro in the park
Andre Le Roux
Loved our stay. However, on our arrival we did get a nasty surprise by having to pay an extra payment of +- R1700.00. I think it was called Park fees. I just feel that if you pay so much already, why this nasty surprise when you get there.
Michael Sims
Rondavels are great. The feeling of the camp is great but for the price, the kitchen should be stocked with stove and microwave.
De La Port Yvette
Comfortable stay.Public Restrooms at the main entrance and near the shop needs attention. There was a resident huge rat in our Rondawel roof..Unit 8.
Lizette
The camp was quiet and relaxing. The room was average compared to the Letaba room that cost less than this room. The curtains can do with a upgrade, it would lift the whole room. Other than that it was very enjoyable.
Erika Langen
Wonderful friendly staff. Accomodation fabulous. Park very clean. Loved every minute. Thank you to everyone working there
Reino Groenewald
Very friendly staff.... camp site bit unorganized and power points for stands are far, but overall a nice stay.
LINDA CRAWFORD
Heard this was a "busy camp" so was a little concerned. Not to worry, it was great! Loved the accommodations and the facilities. Very pleasant place to be. Especially attentive staff in the restaurant.
Candis
Myself and the 3 visitors with me found the accommodations to be most satisfactory at both camps. The staff at all the different venues we were at were knowledgeable and very hospitable. We would all highly recommend a visit to the Kruger to all our friends.Thank you for a wonderful experience in the Kruger Park.Joan Spice
Sven Kruger
Me and my guests had a wonderful time, the staff was very friendly, helpful and preventing. The Chalets in excellent conditions and even the game in the camp was sportful! The best rates from us!

We had as unforgetable experience in Kruger Park. Wonderful place.
Barbara Balfe
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Skukzuza Restcamp where we were greeted with warmth and courtesy. The Morning Drive was a big highlight of our stay in South Africa and good value for money.
JAN and Jerry
This is a really nice camp. I would definitely stay here again. They had a make shift restaurant which was okay while they rehab. Very good value.
John Wray
Bungalow comfortable and clean. Temporary restaurant, whilst building in progress, not great. Swimming pool surrounds should be improved. Shop facility very good. Park excellent and roads well maintained
Patricia Aughey
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip and found both bungalows and camps clean, well maintained and all staff exceptionally friendly and helpful - well worth the money!
JAN KIRBY
Very good. Quiet and clean. Great shop. Nice rest camp. Saw lots of Lions on Self Drive. Wonderful.
JACO
Fantastic weather and good views.
Sandra Snyman
We enjoyed the weekend in Skukuza. The bungalows were spotless. So was the linen and crockery!! Our fridge was not working though. The food at the "outdoors" restaurant (PLAASKOMBUIS or what was it called?) was absolutely divine! Even though is was a temporary restaurant outside the shop.
MARGARET WYNNE
We were so pleasantly surprised.. had chalet No 86 right at the end of the boardwalk, and overlooking the river. So restful and beautiful. Did not want to leave.
Kate Groch
we had a wonderful stay at Skukuza. the bungalow was clean and well maintained.it is a difficult time at Skukluza with all the building but as regular visitors it is great that there is ongoing maintenance. please keep up the good work as it is a treasure to have as a countrythank you
MARCHEL VERHULST
House was very well equipped. The service in the restaurant was poor and sometimes even rude and impolite. Excellent view from out the house!
Ingrid
We only stayed at Skukuza for one night which was a pity because we had an excellent view of the river from our house. When we arrived there was a herd of elephants waiting for us across the river!
Loraine Williams
We had a fantastic time. The staff were excellent and especially the Rangers taking us out on trips.
Noeline Bonner
Stayed in one of the luxury bungalows with a river view. So amazing!
Dieter
Hi, We had a awesome time in the park. Skukuza was just right.Had a really good camping spot. Lots of traffic around to Lower Sabie. But really had a fab time. Thanks, Dieter and Family.
Ben Van Wyk
The Stay was very nice.
Steve Thomas
I stay at Skukuza camp 2 or 3 times a year on my way back to the UK from Mozambique. The Kruger park and the overnight stay are always a great beak and relaxing quality experience. Will be staying again later this year.
jane elton
We are addicted to this annual trip, it never fails to be the highlight of the year! this year we saw leopards mate, unbelievable! It's like a national geographic episode every day. Booking for next year now!
leon mare
We enjoyed every minute, the bungalow was kept very clean and neat and the beds were very comfortable. Thanx
Wimpie Malan
One thing that stood out was the friendly and always helpful staff.
Christea de Bruin De Bruin
Good experience.
MAGDA VAN DER WESTHUIZEN
Very clean.
Linda Jones
What a pleasant surprise! We were hesitant about staying at this large restcamp, but we reserved a riverside semi-luxury bungalow and it was fantastic. Really great job with updating and beautiful secluded location. We will recommend this camp, especially the riverside bungalows, to others.
VITOR BARATA
As usual a great experience, does not matter how many times you visit Kruger and its facilities. Always an amazing time.
Ken Mohan
Fine trip. we enjoyed the stay.
Lynn Gouws
The bungalow was beautiful, clean and private. We enjoyed our stay thank you.
Romy Malin
As a group of 9 this house was perfect, would recommend it with it's beautiful view anyway. We did feel that the house didn't look quite as clean and well kept as the lodges used to be. But the view onto the river made it worth it.
JANINE RILEY
The staff as always were friendly and accommodating, the ablutions were clean but are in need of general maintenance. Excellent bird and animal sightings - cant wait to go back.
Werner Janse van Rensburg
Very nice vacation. Staff at Skukuza reception not that friendly though... But very nice vacation.
Philippe RENAUD
I haven't been in the kruger since 1994 and we saw the big 5 in one day. It was good welcome.we look for cheetahs and wild dogs but we have not seen them.we are still blessed for the luck we have received.
Carol Humphries
I took my 2 grand children 2 Skukuza camp site and had a wonderfull week in the park. Love to do it more
Alinah Mekgoe
Did enjoy my stay at Skukuza Restcamp and the exciting moment was the game drive when we saw the Lions, I will definitely go to Kruger Park again.
LESLEY DAVE
We had a great time, everything was well organised.
Corinne Rebecca
The bungalow was comfortable. We moved the beds around to make it more convenient. We were glad to have heat. Plenty of blankets, and the screened veranda was nice- we actually DID sit out there for a bit- with blankets. For such a big rest camp, i was surprised the store closed so early. We did dine at one of the restaurants, the food was well prepared and reasonably priced. It was a great experience to try local fare. We had difficulty reaching Skukuza by phone to verify the start of our sunset game drive and by the time we arrived, it was leaving in 2 minutes. We made it just in time. Blankets for the sunset game drive would have been good- it was VERY cold. It was difficult navigating through the rest camp with the map given. Would have liked to have spent more time exploring at the camp and all that was offered, but couldn't wait to get out and look for animals. Cape Buffalo was the only one of the Big 5 that we missed- we had some great sightings! We had stayed the night before in Satara- comparatively, Skukuza Rest Camp is much bigger and unless you'll be there for a few days, any of the smaller camps would probably be better. It seems Skukuza would be great for a few days or a week- with all it has to offer. With just one day there, it was not enough time to make use of all the amenities.
Gian Mario Bissacco
Good position in the middle of the park.
Lynette Grobler
Wonderful.
Mariken Jordaan
Bathroom was in very good condition. Camp sites are bit difficult to spot - not marked out properly
JANNIE MARSILI
Will keep going back no matter what.
DESIGAN PILLAY
We was very impressed with the rest camp , everything was clean and neat.We look forward to spending another holiday at Skukuza rest Camp again
