In the southern part of Namibia you will find the Fish River Canyon, the largest canyon in Africa. It's a place of natural beauty and geological significance.
The canyon itself stretches over 160 km 99 miles long and up to 27 km / 17 miles wide and in some areas it is approximately 550 meters / 180 feet deep. Fish River Canyon is a great destination to visit year-round, but to experience all the region can offer, the best time to visit would be from May to September.
The weather is cooler, which allows more outdoor activities. The skies are clear and dry providing memorable game viewing, as the animals congregate around waterholes. From November - April, the landscapes are greener but there are fewer chances to spot the desert-adapted wildlife as they tend to not congregate around watering holes.
The Fish River Canyon has become a popular hiking destination and attracts different visitors, therefore providing accommodation ranging from luxury lodges to rustic camping sites.
